Rehabilitation Treatment in a Patient with Fournier's Gangrene

Fournier's gangrene is a rare disease characterized by necrotizing fasciitis of the genital perineal region. Antibiotic therapy, debridement of necrotic tissue and tissue repair are pillars of treatment without including the specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the interdisciplinary team. The objective of this article is to support the intervention and management of the Rehabilitation Medicine specialty in this disease and its impact on a difficult-to-manage patient, treated at Delfina Torres de Concha Hospital del Sur. Exercises and lasers were applied. He was discharged at 14 sessions with great tissue granulation, absolute closure of the scrotal area and partial closure of the perineal, perianal and intergluteal areas in the resolution phase. This meant a saving of $ 5,629 for the Ministry of Health. The integration of the specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the interdisciplinary team determined a favorable evolution in this patient.
