Introduction: Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan consisting of single-chain polymers of disaccharide units of glucuronic acid and N-acetyl glucosamine. It plays a role in various biological processes, including wound healing and bone regeneration. Within the field of rehabilitation, hyaluronate has recently demonstrated to be effective in processes such as knee osteoarthritis, tendinopathies and meniscal injuries.
Objective: To report a case with an indirect muscle injury treated with hyaluronic acid and to analyze its response to repair.
Clinical Case Report: A 32-year-old female recreational soccer player is reported here. After performing a muscle stretch or sprint, she suffered pain in the posterior region of her right leg. Ultrasound revealed a retraction injury of the deep fibers of the right biceps femoris, Peetrons grade II.
Conclusions: The patient's satisfactory response 21 days after surgery confirms that hyaluronic acid promotes muscle repair by shortening the biological repair time.
