Preoperative physical conditioning in lung cancer

Respiratory rehabilitation traces its origins to the 20th century, especially for the treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. However, its true boom in our country has taken place in the last thirty years. The objective of the article is to show how physical conditioning, as an important component of respiratory rehabilitation, allows improving physical and functional capacity in a patient with lung cancer before surgical treatment. Therefore, this study took as a sample a patient who was evaluated by a multidisciplinary team as a candidate to participate in a respiratory rehabilitation program. In relation to the applied program, the results were satisfactory. The patient showed a favorable physical condition, which led to a progressive increase in training loads. Consequently, the therapeutic program carried out improved her pre-surgical physical condition. As a result, she had a more satisfactory postoperative period and better performance in activities of daily living.
