Logotherapy in infants with diseases of the nervous system

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Neurolinguistic pathologies occur in significant percentages of infants with diseases of the nervous system.
Objective: To evaluate the effects of logotherapy on language development in infants with nervous system diseases treated at the Child Neurology Clinic of the International Center for Neurological Restoration.
Methods: An observational explanatory study was carried out and the sample was made up of 239 children. The selection took into account the review of medical records and speech therapy records contrasted with the result of the external diagnosis, the use of speech therapy, the initial and final evaluation with the Oral Expression and Pronunciation Evaluation Scale (Prelinguistic and Linguistic Stages). Percentage calculation and Wilcoxon's non-parametric test were used.
Results: Male sex predominated (53.5%), permanence of 2 cycles (56 days) of treatment (66.1%), age range from 6 to 10 years (35.6%), clinical diagnosis of delay in psychomotor development (31.4%) and speech therapy diagnosis of language delay (38.1%). Improvements were found in the parameters evaluated; vocalizations stood out (40.8%), as well as first words (25.4%), isolated words (34.3%), simple sentences (27.7%), lexical-grammatical aspect (26.6%), narration (20.7%) and pronunciation (15.3%).
Conclusions: Logotherapy positively influences language development in infants with nervous system diseases.
