Abstract

Introduction: Information and communication technologies have transformed educational and healthcare processes. Educational software in medical sciences fosters learning and health education.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the TranscranealElect educational software in its hypermedia web and mobile device versions.

Methods: A technological development study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of educational software designed to facilitate the understanding of transcranial magnetic stimulation in patients with post-stroke motor aphasia; the study spanned from January 2025 to March 2026. The software was developed in phases (analysis, design, implementation, and validation). Fifteen specialists carried out the expert validation. Assessments covered knowledge (pre-test/post-test), usability (System Usability Scale), satisfaction, and impact on patient health education.

Results: The software received a high rating from experts (4.9/5 for content). Among residents, mean knowledge increased from 58.3% (standard deviation ±7.2) to 86.7% (standard deviation ±5.4) following the intervention (p < 0.001; Cohen’s d = 1.96); the System Usability Scale score was 82.3/100. Among patients with motor aphasia, there was an increase in the perception of information regarding their condition (from 35.0% to 85.0%; p < 0.001) and in their willingness to participate in rehabilitation (from 45.0% to 90.0%; p < 0.001).

Conclusions: TranscranealElect educational software is an effective educational tool in terms of usage and acceptance, significantly improving professional knowledge and the empowerment of patients with post-stroke motor aphasia.
