Abstract

Introduction: Pelvic floor dysfunctions significantly impact quality of life. Female healthcare workers may be susceptible to these conditions, and there is limited research on their sexual health in relation to these dysfunctions.

Objective: To determine the risk of sexual dysfunction and its characteristics in female healthcare workers with symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted from April to September 2025 at the Medical-Surgical Research Center. Thirty-six female healthcare workers with symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction participated. Sexual function was assessed using the Female Sexual Function Index.

Results: The mean age was 44 years. The most prevalent dysfunctions were urinary incontinence (44.4%) and genital prolapse (19.4%). Twenty-five percent of the patients presented with more than one dysfunction. Thirty-three-point three percent were at risk of sexual dysfunction. The most affected aspects were orgasm and desire. A statistically significant association was found between the type of pelvic dysfunction and the risk of sexual dysfunction (χ² = 7.665; p = 0.022). This risk was higher in women with combined urinary incontinence and prolapse.

Conclusions: A significant proportion of female healthcare workers with pelvic floor dysfunctions are at risk of sexual dysfunction, especially those with combined conditions. These findings highlight the need to integrate sexual health assessment into their routine medical care.
